Camo Paint for My New NEF Turkey Gun
« on: July 10, 2009, 03:55:16 PM »
Bought myself a new NEF Turkey gun the other day (black stock, XX-full screw-in choke).

I'd like to camo it myself.  I'm not overly concerned about it being pretty.  I just want the camo to last, and provide some rust protection.

I've been looking at the "HS Camo Permanent Camo Paint Kit" at http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_64763_425009016_425000000_425009000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT

Are there any threads here that cover this topic?

Thanks,

Chopper

I have one of those also. I got some of the camo tape and took the gun apart and camoed everything except the frame and then put everything back together. I think it turned out pretty good. That way if you want to try something else just peel it off. Just make sure you use the no mar tape.

There are several links to painting H&Rs in the FAQs and Help sticky.

Chopper3030,

I'm not sure how durable is the paint you're looking at. If I was going to go the spray can route, I'd go with ALUMA-HYDE II by Brownell. It's specially formulated to resist bore cleaners, solvents and other cleaning chemicals. It also has a proven track record and it's easy to use.

Here's a link to Brownells. There are also some videos at the bottom of the page that show you how to apply Aluma-Hyde II:

If you need stencils, here's a link to Bulldog Arms, a place that sells stencils for camo paint jobs:
