The down side of living in Alaska.
We currently have 393 forest fires burning here in Alaska as of yesterday (Monday). Over 765,000 acres burned, expected to go over a million acres very soon.
The smoke in the air is has been very bad, with warnings for people with respiratory problems to stay indoors. I have had a sore throat and I keep coughing up fluid draining from my sinuses into my lungs. It affects some of us more than others.
My son just came in saying "Ow it's smoky out". Looks like another day of smoke. Fairbanks is surrounded by fires, so we get smoke from every direction. We have been living with it now for about a month. Wondering how this is going to affect the Caribou hunting trip I am planning August 8th.
Last time we had a big fire down in the area I hunt Caribou the fire ran the Caribou right into our camp. That was the year I shot the one in my avitar. You can see the smoke in the background against the mountain. Hundreds of Caribou running through camp that morning.
And the Borough is worried about a few wood burning stoves making bad air during the winter. That's nothing compared to this summer. Someone should call the EPA and get a ban on wild fires. The government has that power don't they? Just tell Mother Nature no more forest fires, no more lighting to start fires, and no more smoke. Getting dizzy, got to go find some clear air, and oxygen.
