.500 S+W Handi Carbine
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:53:13 PM »
My .500 S+W Handi project took another step forward today. I cut the barrel down from the original 22" to 16.5". Overall length is now 32"! Still 6" over federal minimum. I still need to finish up the replacement stock, but here's a photo with the barrel cut down and the original stock.

CW,
I think it would be great with a nice ghost ring sight set. My eyes don't agree much with standard sights anymore. I have an XS ghost ring sight set from my Marlin 1895, but it will take some careful drilling and tapping to get it on a Handi. I have to do some sight height calculations first to see if it will work. If not I'll look into getting a Williams WGRS, add their ghost ring and see about a firesight for the front of it. For now I have a Leupold M8-3X scope that I'll use.

Don,
That's exactly what I was thinking!!  I hear you on the eyes and seeing thing.  ;D ::) But I too can still see peeps well too. I like the durability of the ashleys and XS sites. I think they would be a very nice addition to this project and really fit with the overall trim handi package!!

PLEASE keep us posted!!

NICE!  I have a .357 barrel being cut and threaded as we speak.  Hopefully it gets back soon.

Very cool.  You'll get a nice fireball out the front.
