Remington Managed Recoil Ammo
« on: July 14, 2009, 05:17:49 PM »
My 12 year old son is determined to hunt this upcoming season with a Weatherby Vanguard in 30/06. The gun is very light, has a synthetic stock and kicks like a mule. I'm trying to locate some 30/06 managed recoil ammo to get him started but I can not find any. I've tried Midway,Cabelas,Bass-Pro,Cheaper Than Dirt, and Able Ammo and all are out of stock. Has anyone have any suggestions as to where I can purchase some?

The Quick Guy  :D might have written to you with a similar answer. If you handload, it isn't hard to come up with very reduced recoil loads for a 30-06.

I would expect he already knows that, probably doesn't handload, but here's the data in case anyone wants it.  ;)

Great information on the reduced loads.

hawkenman:
Just like adults, the 12 year olds do come in different shapes and sizes so one rifle for a 12 year old might not fit or is useful to another.
Since the Vanguard has a plastic stock I presume it wouldn't be all that complicated to add a bit of weight.
The other thing is the lenghts( pull) of the stock. Being plastic it would not be easy to trim to fit. Does Vangard offer youth sized stocks?
I have found that an ill fitting stock adds noticeably to the felt recoil.
