A Low Top-Mount Peep On A Rossi M92
« on: May 29, 2009, 10:12:12 AM »
A top-mount receiver peep sight from Williams, 5D or FP, originally designated to fit a Win 94AE (angle-eject) can be mounted atop the receiver side walls via D/T of two appropriate holes there - allowing a very low line of sights.

does that sight include the mounting screws?  Did you need a taller/shorter fron sight?
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Yes - Williams furnishes all their new peep sights with the proper mounting screws.

If a used sight was gotten somewhere, you're on your own.

In my experience, a barrel-mounted front sight in issue height is usually good to go, but I haven't had a chance to take it to my club for actual zeroing as yet - I've been in the middle of remodelling my kitchen, and want to finish before the weather gets too hot.

The front sight will work but, you can put a post front sight on it, and file it down shorter to have a front and rear sight closer to the bore line. The standard front sight is tall enough that it will cause you to have to raise the rear sight to keep if from shooting low. I used a Lyman just like the one on my Model 94 Winchester. It too came with the appropriate screws.

Thanks for the info.

I think I am going to have to put one of these on my Rossi. I swapped the factory sights for a Marbles set and although they are a little better I am still having trouble seeing the front sight. This problem seems exclusive to this rifle. I have no trouble shooting the 94 30/30 that I inherited from my grandfather.

Any peep will help sharpen your sight picture some, but NOTHING will do as well, shooting, as a fibre-optic front sight blade/tip - somewhat problematic with the Rossi.

Have you considered adhering a short section of FO pipe atop your front post, as a test (at least) ?

Lakota, Look in Brownell's catalog. They sell the bigger front sights that will work on your Rossi if you have the bbl dovetail type. If you have the barrel band type of sight then you should contact Steve Young in Port Arthur Texas. His number is 409-984-5473. You can take off your sight and he will make a large gold or silver bead for you and solder it on your band and reblue for about $70. Put on the Marble's tang sight and you will be shooting that 92 like you had 20 year old eyes.
