What was the first Leupold Scope
« on: May 31, 2009, 08:26:27 AM »
First two Leupolds I ever had were called Gold Ring - I think.  That was about 1970.

I'd like to see a chronological listing of models by year of introduction

Leupold has a history page.

1947    * Marcus Leupold misses a shot at a blacktail buck due to fogged lenses in a riflescope. According to family legend, he exclaims “Hell, I could make a better scope than this!” True to his word, he does, and Leupold enters the riflescope market with the introduction of the 2.5x Plainsman.

I had one of the first generation variables in 3x9. It had been damaged before I got it, I sent it to Leupold for repairs. I was told it was one of the first and not repairable. As a replacement, free of charge they sent me a VXII AO in 4 x 12. Interesting that the early ones were actually brown and not blue/black.

I have a Leupold with M7  4x on the front bell.  It looks just like the M8.  Good tough scope with a pretty fine duplex reticle.  I never could find any history on it.
