What would you put on a encore pistol  in 7mm-08.  Shots up to 200 yrds with a rest of course will be possible in food plots/clearcuts.  I just can make up my mind and since this is my first pistol I dont know too much and want to make the right choice.

2x7 im looking at the burris
2x i would get the leupold. ????

if there is any way you can come up with the extra money for a 2x7 burris, that would be the best optic on a 7-08. it has 21' wide field of view on 2x at 100 yards, yet you still have up to 7x for longer shots, target accuracy, and ease of seeing the bullseye. i have one and absolutely love it. the straight 2x burris also has 21' field of view. i'm not sure about the leupold, but it is definately a good scope also. my opinion, a straight 2x better suits a short range caliber, and the 2x7 would be dandy on the 7-08. the 3x12 burris is super also, but doesn't have nearly the field of view at 100. it is also a little tricky to use at high powers. i actually have the 3x12 on my 7-08 and it's fine and dandy and great for target shooting, but i put a 2x7 on my 30-30AI for it's extra field of view in the woods. eventually, i want another 2x7 on the 7-08, and move the 3x12 to another barrel.
hey, the perfect excuse to get another barrel :)

there is a good looking buy in the classifieds on the 2x burris. it would get you by for now, and the you'd also have an excuse for a extra barrel later 8)  a man can't have too many barrels(or scopes)

Hawghead,

My opinion has always been--You can't have too much 'scope on a rifle or handgun, providing it's a variable of course.  I just put a 3x-12x Burris on my Contender in 7-30 Waters.  I previously only had a 4x on it.  My groups improved amazingly and that 10-12 power is just wonderful for 200-250 yard shots from my bench.  Yet, I have the 3x for up close hunting.  2x is not near enough 'scope for a 7mm-08...Period.  Good-luck...BCB
