.50 caliber round balls

Can someone tell me what a standard .50 caliber round ball weighs? I have about 500 I received in a trade, but don't own a scale so have no idea what they weigh. Thanks, Worm.

50 caliber .490" diameter round balls are 179 grains.

I just happened to weigh 30 or so .490's last night... don't ask...  :-[  average was about 178.5 gr.

I get an average of around 177 grains so it looks like we are in the ballpark on having that good, soft, plumbers lead. I think the published weight is 175 grains.

really depends on the maker. Ive seen some boxes marked 175 & 177
