Memphis. What a great city.

For the third time in recent years a visiting SWAT Team had their van broken into while eating BBQ. They were relived of a few Sig assault rifles (the real full auto assault rifles), a few .357 Sig handguns, and several loaded 30-round mags. So far one assault rifle has been recovered.

A few years ago a FBI convention was in town and one of their vans was emptied while they ate lunch at a BBQ joint. They got all of their stuff back in about 3-4 days, but with 300 FBI agents on the case you would hope so.

Now we find out that in the last two years over 40 police weapons from assault rifles to handguns have been stolen from the officers' cars, homes, and one left on the bumper of his truck.

The report also said that in the last two years over 1400 guns have been stolen from people's cars here in town. I have to leave mine locked in my car while at work, but I'm going to get a lock box with a cable. They may still get it, but they are gonna have to work for it.

Sounds like good cause to ban LEO's from possessing firearms, too many of their weapons are falling into the wrong hands. Well heck that's the kind of logic the anti's use on us civilians.

A few years back, when I lived in Florida, someone turned in a AR 15 in a case with several clips of ammo. Turned out it belonged to a Sheriff's deputy that had a flat and took it out of the trunk and forgot to replace it. Imagine if it weren't a concerned citizen!!!

Crooks are opportunistic predators. A month or so back I was attending to a stabbing victim who was bleeding profusely in a parking lot. I just happen to come across the altercation and broke it up. While doing so and waiting on the EMT's another thug burglarized my personal vehicle, stealing my stereo, with my Van Halen CD inside with my two rottweilers in the vehicle! But as usual my glove box was found open. That means they were looking for a gun. Thankfully, it wasn't there.

I understand professional burglars are not concerned about dogs. I have experience from close friends whose two German Shepherds did nothing while their home was ransacked as the owners slept soundly.

Nashville sounds like a city I would avoid. Have heard alot about the crine rate.And then the McNair incident.I'll just keep around the homefront.

Memphis again: There were 5 homicides on the 4th of July. Then, 5 more people shot outside a nightclub on Beale Street (big tourist spot downtown). My wife and I just never go downtown. Not a safe place. And the folks that come from around the world to go to Graceland have no idea what a bad section of town that has become. Three former city councilmen (one is female) are in the federal pen, one for the second time; the former state representative from this district is in the slammer, and the mayor is under investigation by the FBI. He's planning to run for Congress next term so he can rub noses with our nation's major criminals.

In Nashville they have finally decided that Steve McNair's death was a homicide. Usually when someone is shot twice in the chest and twice in the head, it's not a suicide. About the only way I can see a suicide with that many shots would be with a .25 auto. (However, they haven't said what caliber gun was used.)

If you were, for sure, looking for automatic weapons, where would YOU look first. If you want real money why go too a convience store, when, for the same penalty, you could go too a bank.
The best way to steal anything is when you have opportunity.

One of our cops put 31 rounds through his rear windshield while standing on the trunk at two guys in the back seat of his car and missed them both 31 times.

How can you do that? It seems like you would have to nick one of them even by accident.

can you say wheel gun?! its all about training. ya only got some much time for training, with mandatory con. law updates, how to use a fire extinguisher yet again, and all the other b.s. leo"s dont get what they should most have for training. isnt cultural diversity/ p.c. wonderful ?

Sounds like arrogance to me! I dont even leave a pistol in a vehicle unless I can see it at all times!

I've read someplace that around 75% of all handguns used in a crime have previously been in police possesion(just like a large percentage of fires are started by pyromanic firemen?). Who catches the catchers?

The North Carolina SWAT team lost their stuff while eating at Interstate BBQ (OK BBQ, but it doesn't really send me) two years ago.

The FBI lost a whole van load of weapons (as well as the van) at a motel, but the news didn't say which motel.

I don't remember which BBQ joint the last one was at, but I don't think it was Corky's. But if you are passing through, Corky's is the place to eat!
