Glass bedding encore forends ??
« on: September 28, 2003, 11:57:50 AM »
Hello I have been lurking reading posts for awhile and finally broke down and bought a 209-50 encore and also bought a 300 win mag barrel for it. My question is does it work to glass bed the front stock rather than try to free float it?I have allready ordered a 22-250 barrel from TC and a 7 mag from bullberry. My thought was that if the forend was bedded there would be no way to torque the barrel different from time to time when changing barrels. Just a though and figured at least one of ya'll would have tried it before so shoot the good bad and ugly opinions on  BTW my stocks are the hollow synthetic ones
SHOOT STRAIGHT........TROY

Maybe I missed something, but you will have to have a different forend to use with the regular barrels compared to the 209 x 50.  I also would wonder if,given the variety of calibers you are going to shoot, one forend would work for all of them if you glass bedded as I would think that the barrels would be of different diameters.  Just a thought.

mine were not just tight at the barrel channel I had to relieve the wood on each of the action. I found that as you take out the wood it is binding on the side to.I also had to replace the pins once the wood was right. The three i have done now shoot in groups instead if shoot gun pattern. two 300 mags and 1- 45 70.  I also use the plastic washers sunk into the wood.  works fine..<:)

sorry i didn't clarify for you there are diff forends but not many there is one for the shotgun one for the muzzleloader one for the heavy barrel one for the standard taper one for the kathadian carbirne and then the pistol forends so in all i am pretty sure give or take one or two it 7 not to mention the youth models but in your dilema no there are no caliber specific forends they are only barrel taper specific the barrels are all same taper just diff bore size and chamber cut so if you glass bed you should still be theoretically ok i guess your at the mercy of the machinist at tc!

good luck

Floating the barrel certainly does work to improve accuracy in the Encore and Ruger #1 both-- I can't see where bedding would help on a two-piece stock.
