colt cobra 357 need info

a buddy of mine called the other night and said he has a stainless cobra 357 for sale. didnt get time to talk bout it much with him so dont have a lot of specifics. im not familar with them at all but they look like a python without the  rib. would love to hear from anybody who has a little knowledge about them.im a big 357 fan and always wanted a colt in that cal.what kind of value are they holding,accuracy?any probs with them at all?any info would be appreciated guys.

They are fine guns. Not as slick as a Python, but stronger. I haven't seen one in 13-14 years, so I have no idea what they are selling for these days. Back when I sold guns they were pretty popular. Never had one come back with a problem. All of my Colt revolvers are pretty accurate and have very good actions. When they came out Colt needed something for LEOs. Most officers (or departments) couldn't afford Pythons, so the King Cobra was a large frame .357 that was cheaper, but stronger than the Python which had a reputation of being too weak for sustained shooting with heavy .357 loads.

What is your friend asking for it?

As I recall the Cobra was a snubby and the King Cobra (which I own in 6") is something else - a large frame 357 based off the Trooper Mk5. Mr Taffin calls this Colt's best DA revolver ever (or something to that effect) in Bige Bore Sixguns. I'm not sure which you were offered.

I love my King Cobra and it is very accurate, but it leads badly as the cylinder throats are quite large (.359" at smallest). With lighter loads this didn't bother me at all (and accuracy was really good), but with magnum loads it is a p.i.t.b. I can't locate .359" bullets here, but need to make work of getting some custom sized.

thanks for the info guys. it was a king cobra, guy sold it before i got there for 500$ive been researching them and really like the looks of them.i appreciate the taffin info as he is one of the gunwriters for sum reason i seem to have respect of his opinion.i figured it was based on the trooper just by the looks of it.i do need however a revolver that will shoot light or heavy loads with no prob.ill keep looking, i would prob settle for a blackhawk with a 9mm convertible cylinder .again many thanks for the info

That's a mighty nice gun to "settle" for.
Jacketed bullets in the 9mm work better in mine.
