I have sorta been stuck on thinking about this one also, just because of the availability of ammo, and a friend has rechambered his TC in 30-30AI and likes it a lot. I am glad to hear it is such a good shooter. Have you left it pretty much stock?

What about Federal Blue Box at Walmart for $10.99, and $7.99 when Cabela's has a sale?

Probably a Topper model 158, great little rifles with a slimmer barrel contour, fixing a loose barrel is not all that hard using the barrel fitting info in the FAQs, hundreds of members here have shimmed second hand or ill fitted barrels to fit and shoot great.  ;D

Hey udtjim,
If ya want find a good "retirement home" where it can have some friends, let me know. We feed 'em well here and give 'em regular and moderate exercise.  ;)

Darn you guys!  I want a 30-30 barrel too!  That was the first thing I ever wanted when I got into the HR/NEF's.  I have 30-30 pistol and rifle barrels on my Thompson Contenders and they shoot great.  I just want to complete the set by adding a barrel to my BC/CR-45 frames.  It's a great caliber to play around with, especially in single shots where pointy bullets can be used.  ....as if all of you didn't already know that.  ;)

Can't think of a single bad thing about the good ole 30WCF! Like the 45-70 there's good reason it has been in production well over 100 years ;)

zoner - send a frame in and get it fitted for a 30-30. It sounds like they got the bugs worked out at Remington. Just call ahead to make sure they have them in stock. I have 6 factory fitted barrels on 2 frames and they all lock up nice and tight. It is about time I get another frame - gun. I am thinking 30-06 or 308. Maybe a 25-06 or 280 and maybe a 35 Remington, sure would like to have a 358, or a 35 Whelen. The 357 max has got me hooked on 35 cal. All my barrels with the exception of a 223 have rimmed cases, but I am running out of options with those - unless I ream new chambers. It gets tough to decide.

Fred, did you have that barrel factory fitted to your CR-45?  If so, how long did it take to have it done and get back from the factory?
