I ordered on a couple months ago they said 12 weeks. I am hearing 8 weeks so I expect it any time

I called the custom shop today and the lady I spoke to told me there is a 14-16 week turnaround time on custom barrels presently. I better order now or I will not have it before the November bear season!!!!!!!!!!

I was also told 10-12 weeks. It took about 20, but I was in no hurry. It turned out well and I have no issues.

To be honest, you can't get a true custom barrel from Thompson Center. Their "custom shop" offers  nothing more than a few additional caliber and finish choices.

You can't specify chamber dimensions, throat length -- or anything you'd normally do when using an actual custom maker.

Match Grade Machine would get my recommendation. Their turnaround is quick and their quality as good as you will find anywhere. Plus, they have a number of items in their existing inventory  that require no waiting.

Their normal turnaround is rarely more than 4-5 weeks.

Buddy of mine ordered a 24" .25-06 barrel with flutes from the custom shop.  17 week wait time.  When it showed up, the flutes were cut with different gap between them.  When turned over one flute is close to being in line with center of forearm where the other is offset.  They are supposed to be centered with the gap between them right in the middle.  Shoddy machining work but if it would have shot worth a dern, he would have kept it.  Tried 12 different loads and nothing shot as well as his other off-the-shelf factory barrel.  He called them and sent it back.  Another 6 weeks and they replaced the barrel and had a note saying accuracy tested.  This one has flutes with different gap between them as well.  Not as bad as the other but visible different indexing.  This one shoots a little better.  Still experimenting with different loads.
He ordered custom gold inlayed frame with whitetails fighting (shoddy looking inlay), $999 presentation quality walnut stock and forearm (beautiful wood) and the custom barrel all at the same time.  They sent the stock and forearm and the forearm wasn't even for the barrel he ordered.  He had to send it back and 4 weeks later, when he received it, they had taken a socket and sandpaper to relieve the barrel channel.  Didn't even seal the wood after sanding.  Just as well they didn't, because we still had to sand it quite a bit to get it to fit correctly as they relieved it for a regular off-the-shelf heavy barrel and this was a heavy barrel from the custom shop which is larger than the regular heavy.   Go figure.
In short, I wouldn't recommend ordering anything from the custom shop unless you want to receive sub-standard work.

+1 - On the Match Grade Machine suggestion.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

TC is NOT a custom barrel maker.

My choices are still Bullberry and SSK for real custom barrels.

Do the math, compare the difference. It isn't that much more to own a true Quality made custom MGM barrel. You will not be sorry you did it!! ;D

I ordered a Contender Carbine 6.8mm Rem (SS/tapered/22 1/4") back in March and it arrived yesterday, Aug 4th. They've had some lay offs at T/C and it's evidently affecting the turn-around through Fox Ridge. The last time I ordered a barrel (a few years ago) they quoted 8-10 weeks and I had it in about a month.

I got a call today from fox ridge.  It seems that when I rodered my barrel about 19 weeks ago, I gave them my credit card info to pay for it.   By the time yesterday that they ran the info to pay for my finally finished barrel, the card had expired.  I gave them the new info and the lady on the phone seems like I had really inconvenienced her.  I politely explaind that if the barrel was done and shipped in the 12 weels they promised, the card would have been valid.  Anyway by the time the barrel gets here next week, it will be 20 weeks.

I didn't know that fox ridge was still open. I thought E. A. Brown was the custom shop now. Who Knew?

Brown's business allows you to order TC CS barrels directly through him -- just as other vendors do with TC.

Also, many of the items bearing the "Eben Brown" logo are actually produced in whole or part by TC.

Bubba
I kicked the .300 Savage around but felt it was too close to my .257 Roberts. I wanted something for bear in the .30 cal range or above with moderate recoil. I like the oddball calibers so I decided on the .338 Federal.
Good luck with the .300.
I will be placing my order this Fall

I got the 300 as I have a model 99 I love, which was my dads.  I do not take it out much as I am afraid of damaging it.  I love the caliber and I feel it is very under rated.  MY dad has taken whitetails, elk a moose and even black bear very effectively with the old 99.  I figured it was a great way to go.

MGM is the way to go for a custom barrel. E.A. Brown company is just a middleman for TC.
