It is the deerhunter model intended for shotgun use.Are they tough, dependabe, reliable?I have heard there is a good chance of getting a lemon with bsa but I like the price and the small dimensions of this scope

I have two BSA cats eye scopes, 2.5x7s they work great on my .357 and .44. I think they are ok.  They are not Leapoulds thou, Which I like better but my wallet don't. 8)

Dunno, but I like the Simmons 8pt 2½x20 shotgun scope, it's got 5" of eye relief, with an Ultra rail(discontinued unfortunately  :-\) it can be mounted ahead of the hammer in low rings. It's plenty durable, bright and clear, a bunch here love them, for $35 shipped it's not a bad choice.  ;)

I just checked mine, with minor hammer spur trimming just above the extension, it can be mounted on a standard H&R base (not the weaver #82) in low rings.

I guess the first thing I'd advise is to ream it to .357 Maximum.  Check the posts here about it.  A lot of guys have done it, and we all love it.  I think the scope will be fine.  If I were going to Max, I would prefer more power and a larger objective.

I picked up 5 of the Simmons Tim is talking about.  No problems with any of them, up to and including 44 mag and just mounted one on my 45-70.  They were under 20.00 when I got mine.  Check Natchez to see if they still have any.  DP

Well you guys made me buy two of those 2.5s. I really like 2.5 power scopes, still got my old Texas Weaver K2.5, but I have to move it from gun to gun too much. Maybe this will solve the problem. Also have a BSA 2.5 that's holding up ok, it has a krinkle paint finish and circles in the reticle. I'll try one of the Simmons when I get 'em on my old 158 full stock 30-30.
