Getting old is when....
« on: July 29, 2009, 02:50:00 PM »
I had another birthday yesterday and got to thinking about the "getting old is when..." thing...

When I was young I had the biggest motorcycles I could get,  Harley's, Gold Wings....and now I find myself looking at these neat little home made mini bikes or old motor scooters.  I don't know what happened to me...but I want a mini bike to play with.

You know your getting old when you don't care what you look like on a mini bike.

I had a Cushman Eagle once but I misplaced it.  Last I saw it was '62.  Let me know if you find it.

On the subject of getting old.
Folks get old---some do it gracefully and some fight it all the way too the grave.
Fighting too the grave is a waste of energy--IMO--and does not slow the process.
Going with the flow is much more exciting and relaxing--IMO.
In some ways being old is a good thing. Well, At least you know your got to be old.
Old doesn't mean too stop living---just realize the limitations of being old and go for accomodating. The smaller bike is a very good example.
I was called "old man" the other day--in a very rude way--and I just laughed at the guy.
Young folks don't understand the true joys of being old. I am enjoying old age---now, I don't fear death and, in some ways, look forward too it.
Blessings

Shriners on mini bikes or in itty bitty cars are often the best of both worlds.  Yeah they are party animals and a clique.  They are also generally vets with a pride in thier years of military service, and last these are the folks who donate time and money putting together events and dues to raise money for childrens hospitals.  These are people willing to make themselves a source of humor as long as it helps someone else.  These are also mostly the same people that raised thier right hands and promised to defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. I have friends my age who have trouble getting into a Corvette it has taken all thier life to earn.  These and the Shriners roll out thier pride and joys and parade them down mainstreet past the courthouse on Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day.  More power to them, it's not what I do but they have always had my respect.

Getting old is when you've learned from a lot of mistakes and you live better and are a better person because of it.

I worked for a guy that was a retired Marine in his late 50s at the time. He had been a boot camp sergeant at Parris Island and was used to yelling at people and being pretty foul (according to his own account.) When I knew him he was the kindest, most thoughtful, gentlemanly man I have ever met. Really classy. I don't know how or why he changed, but he did. I fondly remember him.

Once you've ridden a road king I doubt your behind will appreciate a an 883 sportster. but dreaming is the most fun, like the anticipation

Getting old is when you no longer give a damn about sex, but can't live without your glasses.

Hope you had a Happy Birthday Jimster.

You know you are getting old when.

You don’t care where your wife goes, just so you don’t have to go along.

Your friend’s secrets are safe with you because you can’t remember them.

Getting “lucky” means you found your car in the parking lot.

There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.

You wake up looking like your drivers license picture.

You find yourself beginning to like accordion music.

Getting a little action, means you don’t have to take a laxative.

You have more patience, but actually, its just that you don’t care anymore.

It takes two tries to get up off the couch.

You can live without sex, but not without your glasses.

"MAN" The old Cushman Eagle! I remember them well. My best bud had a Cushman and I had a Baby Whizzer.
He was always having to wait on me. The Whizzer couldn't stay up with the Cushman ;D
