New Marlin .41 Mag. Lever Action
« on: September 12, 2003, 11:17:56 AM »
The latest Shooting Times magazine features a write up on Marlin's new .41 Magnum carbine.  It has a checkered stock & pistol grip, 20" barrel, and a 20" twist.  This is a nice looking gun for the small but loyal  .41 magnum  fans.

Would be interested in hearing from any of you with real experience  with this new product.  :D

Wish I could find one that looks like the picture.  The two I have looked at had nasty wood on them and was the roughest cycling lever action that I have ever worked.  I waited for months to buy one, had the money saved and everything.  From the two I looked at, I would not turn loose with my money for them.

To me, a .41 mag Marlin only makes sense if you already have a .41 revolver and you want a companion for it. The recoil of a .44 mag rifle is (to me) very light and manageable. So I'd step up to the .44 with it's much better ballistics. BUT...I sure like the better control of the .41 mag in a revolver...man, this gets complicated, doesn't it.

I will let you tell that one to the .41 caliber fans.  When you're dealing with guns and gun fans, "sense" is not nearly so powerful as "just becuase."  Good luck.

I don't know why you would want to "step up" to a .44.  I would take another look at ballistics - I don't think you will find that big of a difference.  I've taken mule deer and black bear with my Marlin .41 mag - one shot for each, and I don't think a .44 would drop them any quicker.  O.K., I'm a .41 mag fan and I do have a .41 mag Ruger Redhawk as a companion piece.  I owned a .44mag Redhawk for several years and finally sold it because the .41 was always the one I took to the field or range.
Thanks for the stump

You forgot the other reason:  The .41 carbine also makes "sense" if you plan on getting a .41 mag revolver.

Gary Reeder did that and calls it the 41GNR, he's done another on the 445 supermag round too.

I'd like to see Winchester do a 41 caliber in the Trapper model but I have the Marlin and like it.  The action continues to get smoother with use.

Still playing with reloads, it really like my practice rounds but the XTP's are taking some work.  Gonna try some other reloads this weekend.

First day of Fall, Man it's nice outside.....Later all!
