One of my Handi-Rifles had horribly heavy trigger pull, no doubt. I was aware of the advice in the FAQ's. Since it was hot in the upstairs part of my home this afternoon, I took refuge downstairs and decided it was a good day to work on this Handi with the bad trigger.
I tip my hat to the article by member Raynor re. lightening up the trigger pull. Following his instructions, I was able to get significant improvement over what I'd started out with. It still isn't any "hair trigger" but I don't care for overly-sensitive triggers anyway. I honed the two contact points on the hammer just as instructed, assembling and reassembling a few times to check progress. I'd already made a holding fixture (per another Handi tip in the FAQ's) to change a hammer. Once you've been inside one of these weapons, it becomes pretty routine on subsequent operations. I discovered that I had a cracked trigger housing in the process, so changed that as part of the job. Since I got my first H&R Topper in 1966, I've wondered if those ever break, and now I know the answer. This one didn't break as you'd think, out in the open as in being dropped on a rock. It was cracked on one side up where it was covered by the frame. It was intact on the other side, so still worked.
Now this Handi-Rifle has about the same trigger pull as my other Handis and that's good enough for me.
