You're just illustrating your lack of practical experience in the outdoors and with sidearms.
Practical experience always trumps keyboard experience. The safety between your ears won't save you from everything, but it helps.

Well ,,,you got me!
Thanks for putting me in my place.
I've only been carry'n these unsafe SAA's for a few -DECADES-!
If you don't know how to carry a old style SA safely, then you are right on  sticking to the transfer bar SA's.

BTW--Keith carried the Colt SAA alot without shooting himself with it.
But then again ,,,,Keith knew how to handle one!

Keith was doing that before the advent of a transfer bar. He was also very conscious of the dangers inherent to this type of firearm, and warned people about them. He also illustrated several particular dangers to be aware of. You'll not that he recommended several holsters that protected the hammer or had a tab that sat between the hammer and the frame to prevent accidents.
I'm fairly certain that if he'd had the choice of a Ruger with a transfer bar(the transfer bar came along when he was pretty old), he'd have been all over it; his Colts were customised in a lot of different ways. Several of which mirror the differences between a SAA and a Ruger.

Sorry but i sure dont think a firing pin gun is unsafe, unless its operated by an unsafe person. I got in the habbit years ago with just loading 5 in a sixgun if it has a transfer bar or not. I guess i never saw a situation where i needed more then 5 shots in the field before i had to load anyway. I also load 4 in a FA 5 gun. the only exceptioin i make to this is a linebaugh built gun in them you need to keep at least an empty in every chamber or recoil can tie up your gun. To me a single action loaded with 5 has got to be safer then a ruger with a transfer bar loaded with six. Its about like someone not wanting a 1911 because there afraid to carry cocked and locked. Loaded properly they cant possibly hurt you and if your stupid enough to ignore saftey something will get you whether it be a gun a care a motorcyle or a power tool.

Hope it heals up okay; those are a real PITA to heal. I'm just overly cautious because of the experiences I've had involving bad horses, rough country, and wild animals. Most of the really good wrecks occured more than a hundred miles from a hospital, and a long way from a road. Real cowboys don't have a Dr. waiting in the stands.

Actually, Blowhard, I generally pop off a few rounds in the horse pasture after I feed and groom my horse; about two weekends a month I RSO at one of the gun clubs I'm a member of, and I generally work in a little shooting when it's slow or at the end of the day when we close. During the week, I generally load ammo or cast bullets unless it's too hot, I'm too busy, or I'm just not feeling well. In fact, I just spent these last two days instructing and PSOing during the LAW program our club helped out with. I'll be RSOing tomorrow.  I guess I really don't get out much. I hope it's not too hot for our match Sunday at my other club.

If you ride a horse your Hammer should be protected from accidently being cocked. I had a hammer cocked by the reins brushing against it in the holster as I dismounted. I didnt discover it for some time later. Another fellow had his hammer cocked  (in an unknown manner) later while dismounted he "hefted his gun " in the holster and It fired, just missing his leg and foot. Kowsky Rider.
