Ultragon rifling
« on: July 25, 2009, 06:20:27 AM »
I've been looking for a Ultra Slug Hunter Compact, SB1-925, 20ga. All I've seen have the regular rifling, I would like to have one with Ultragon rifling. Gun shops say they can order one but can not say what kind of rifling it will have. Should I wait and hope to find one in the future or just get one with the regular rifling ? Is the Ultragon rifling much better ?

The way I see it and I have both the ultragon and the other rifling...is if you are gonna shoot full bore slugs you might should get the ultragon if your gonna shoot sabots you can get it done with the regular rifling. Now other may come on later and say something else as I got very little exp. with the sabots and plastic fouling. Now as to What bbl you may get by ordering a USH or a ULSH I think every bbl that has been made for these since late 2008 is the ultragon Tim may know better though. But I got one of the first 20ga ultragon bbl's on complete ULSH late summer 2008. I will go back and see if I can find my post for the dates.Kurt

Hold the phones don't cook them pigeons yet. Got a call from Walmart the gun is in...stopped by on my way to work to fill out the papers (got a 24 hr waiting period even though I am buying it in Wisconsin I still got to go by The communist state of Illinois laws). Looked at it... seems fine it is a Pardner bbl that is drilled and tapped w/scope mount and on a SB1 frame pallet wood MC stock with butt pad.No where on the gun does it identify that it is ultragon rifling The box was marked with the SB1-S24 though. I will pick up wed on way to work and get to maybe check it out this weekend.           Kurt

I guess I picked mine up 1st week of June 08 and as far as I know they all have the ultragon rifling after that time as the 12ga was already out. What you would need to watch for would be old new stock guns.Hope this helps. Kurt
