Nice Lab Shorty. Is he a really obedient dog?

I've had really bad luck with Labs, mostly, I think, because I got them from back yard breeders. And I know the entire breed isn't like mine were because some of the finest, most obedient dogs I've ever seen have been well trained labs.

I couldn't do anything with my last lab. No one could - even spent a small fortune on professional trainers. That dog would just not listen to me. An encounter with him was like fighting a large bear cub.

He has been a true joy to train and has no quit in him, he retrieved his first duck at 7 months and is a retrieving machine. We still have a way to go on his training but he is proceeding very nicely.
His breeding is very good, All are Master Hunters on both sides back 3 generations so I have allot of hope for good things in his and my future.

That is one beautiful Lab, My last Lab lived for 13-1/2 years when I had to put him down. I vowed never to have to do that again, and at 65 at the time. My wife and I agreed no more Dogs. Well 5 years went by and at 70 I, as well as my wife gave in. We found a breeder of Labs, with Mother and Father on premises. Mother 100#, and the Father 140#. Mother so gentle, Father a little more aggressive but also gentle. Both in kennel with other labs, no fighting at all. They had 2 males left. Iheld one my wife the other, For some reason I liked the one I held, he was a hanful and he was skaking some what. So we gave in, He is the gentles, gets along with everyone and all animals. He is part of the family. At 72 now I have physical problems and he is my constant companion, he has to be with me all the time . He is a Joy to have. Here is his picture at 110# and 2 years old. First as a puppy 12 weeks

Labs are great dogs.
I bought a chocolate female out of a back yard years ago.
she was the largest female, almost as big as the large male,
her dad was a good hunting dog mother did not hunt.
She was just going to be a yard dog and pet, she took to taining
like she already knew what i wanted, sit stay was easy, i could walk of
and leave her, she was a joy to work with and she trained me very well.
when she was about 10 mos. old, my buddy ask if i wanted to take her quail
hunting with us, he had 4 pointers and 2 brits. I said ok but she has never been out side the yard and is just a big pet. I noticed she stayed right with the old
female brit both days and would retrive  a quail or 2. She was a changed dog
she would still play in the back yard but when you showed her the dog trailer
she was hunting a place to load and she was all business till we got back home.
