Kit pistol?

Can anyone give me a value on a CVA .45 percussion kit pistol? The person said it was unfired without the ramrod.

What is it? Philly Derringer,, Kentucky,,Hawkin/Mountain,,Trapper ,,??

06 catalog prices are 110 for the Philly
                             133 for the Kentucky
                             135 for the Hawkin/Mountain
                             169 for the Trapper
Add about 20$ for current I'm guessing.
 I picked up a H&A Kentucky un-finished kit at a local gun show for $50,,,

No ramrod? well, subtract 20 from the askin price. the brass ends are worth that much + shipping.

In the discription they said colonial pistol so I'm not sure what type it is. Has about a 5 or 6 inch barrel. Wood is walnut and about an inch or so shorter than the barrel. This one looks to have some time on it, maybe 15 or 20 years. They say it needs refinished because the oridginal finish was done poorly.

 That would very likley be the Philadelphia Derranger. The other 3 types have a 9" barrel and that's hard to confuse with 5-6". However, someone measuring the tang with the barrel could possibly confuse it as barrel length and come up with 5".
 Re-doing or refinishing someone elses "poorly done" kit job can be a PITA. Most common errors are no finish work with the factory inletting and over sanding the exterior wood, looseing the lines, and not doing the finish work too or polishing the brass. Worse yet, is that it actually WAS fired and not cleaned!
 15-20 yrs don't really mean much as the parts are still commonly available,(see link),it only means the very likley poly urethane finish has turned brittle and the internal lock parts have been neglegted. Many times folks have a sentimental attachment to an item like this because it was done by someone they knew. Because of that, they have a higher value vested too it than the actual material value of a boogered job.

Colonial pistol is a very fun pistol! Its not a derringer. I see them go for $100- $150 on ebay.

Colonial pistol had about a 7 inch barrel. and a metal ramrod.  45 caliber rifled barrel.  As I recall there were two different percussion models.  One used CVA's early really cheapo lock and had a welded bolster on the gun for the breech system.  The other used their slightly better lock and had a drum and nipple system.  The latter is more preferrable.

I thought ebay took the cowardly way out and didn't sell any type of guns. I tried to list a choke tube once and they said it was against their policy. This gun looks a little bigger than the derringer that dixie has listed.

Sold this 45 CVA Philly Derringer for $85 last year.   Buyer was happy as apple pie with the price and condition and I was happy to get rid of it without loosing any money on it.

Add about 4" to the barrel and a couple to the wood and it would be a match. They wanted 75.00 plus shipping and wouldn't come down any.

Fo some reason there was a flock of colonial pistols on the auction sites in the past two weeks.  One was inpieces and only brought $23.00.

Th one wih t drum and nipple is more desireable than the welded bolster.  A FRIEND scrounged up a kentucy barrel ndput it on his Colonia pistol and with new sigts, it made a fair pistol.
