TC Sport .50 CAL.

Been looking at an old TC Scout in .50 cal.  The brass is a little tarnished but other than that it looks like it's spent most of it's life inside a safe.  From what I gather this is one of the first inline rifles made.  Don't know that I would use it to hunt with but does anyone have any experience with these rifles?  I already have an H&R sidekick .50 and a TC Thunderhawk .54 for hunting.  Probably would be something I would take to the range just to see how I do with open sights with my aging eyes.

I believe the rate of twist is 1-28 so I believe that is too fast for a patched round ball, but I would be willing to try anything.  I have shot maxiballs for the most part with my other rifles.  I have been using some T7 but prefer American Pioneer powder because if the easy clean-up.  Like to hear what your experience has been with these good or bad.

The biggest problem with the Scout is the breechplug and nipple are unique to the rifle and not like anything else. If you need a breechplug or nipple you are basically out of luck unless someone kept one. The fire channel from the nipple to the powder charge is a little strange also with side relief ports that vent fire and smoke from the side of the action when shot. I sold mine just because it was a chore to clean it properly. I would suspect that it may have corrosion in the fire channel if it was ever shot. Mine shot OK in fact I killed my firet elk with it but it was very picky about what it would shoot accurately (some of that may have been that it was my first black powder rifle and I was still learning).
