Several ?'s about Handis

I was in the local gunshop and spotted about 6-7 youth model 243 Winchester NEF. Blued barrel's and synthetic stocks. They had new ones for a decent price($219 and UP). They seemed like a great length barrel wise but the stock was a little to short for me. My questions are...

1. Could I remove the stock, sell it and replace it with a full size adult stock and keep the original barrel?
2. Would all the other rifle barrels fit on the frame as it was SB-2.

Thanks ahead of time. I really liked the gun and I really liked the fact that it was lightweight.

Yes, all stocks will interchange, barrels aren't one size fits all tho, spend some time reading the FAQs and Help sticky, answers to all of your questions are there for the reading.  ;)

Tim,
I've been looking threw that several times for several hours. My Main question would be since it is labeled a youth, would the 30 30, 45-70 barrel fit that receiver? it is an SB-2 so I would think they would. Thanks!

My first Handi I bought was a .243 youth model with the youth stock.

It has since grown up and the receiver is the only thing that is still original from that first rifle.

The original receiver now wears a laminated thumbhole stock by Boyd's and a 45-70 barrel.

It also at times sports a 12 ga. Tracker 2 barrel, and once had a .223 barrel attached to it.

So the answer to your question is yes, just change out stocks, barrels, whatever.

Like Tim said, used barrels bought over the Classifieds section may, or may not fit, and then you would refer to the FAQ's at the top of the page.

I've bought a few barrels and so far I've been pretty lucky in that only two had to be shimmed in order to lock up tight.

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

The only difference for youth rifles is the butt stock length. There are restrictions on some frames, '96-'99 SB2 frames can't be fitted with any high pressure barrels or 45-70, still waiting on the final decision by H&R as to what barrels can be fitted to them, dunno on the 30-30 for those years yet, but any frame made later wouldn't be a problem.  ;)

I bought a Youth 22 Hornet with the short stock Length Of Pull (LOP) = 11.75", full-size stocks have LOP = 14.25".

My backwoods solution was to buy a small Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad at Wally World for $19.95, and that added 1" to the LOP = 12.75". A full size synthetic stock costs about $32+shipping for Midway. It was a compromise for my small framed son and my large teenager and me.
