IIRC, the Model 336A was first introduced in 1948.

All Model 336 serial numbers have a yearly prefix code, either alphabetic or numeric.
These serial codes also work for the Model 39a, as well.

Early serial numbers located on the lower tang under the lever; Later ones on upper tang.

[I'm researching a Marlin 336A, SN: 35503 but cannot find any info on date of manufacture.]

[Prefix code is "F".]

SN 35503 and SN F35503 could be different rifles.

The reason you couldn't find anything is because you weren't using/giving the entire serial number (xx'ing out the last 2-3 digits) in your initial request(s), which would have included the prefix code.

If you do any further "research" somewhere, you might get more beneficial/quicker results if you furnished more information about the rifle with your requests.

You're right.  Due to my ignorance I didn't give all the available information.

S'ok - please don't think I was admonishing you.  I was only trying to help you out with any further inquiries elsewhere.

It may sound silly, but with some firearms, overlooking to describe something as simple as the barrel length can change the value from common to rare - since (generally) very short or long barrels in most classic models are more in demand, and ergo carry more value.
