I'm going to be in Ketchikan, Alaska for 1 day in June. Figure I should be able to get in a Salmon fishing trip. Can anyone recommend a boat. I've seen plenty on-line, but figured as with down here in Florida, a good recommendation goes a long way.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Wait a minute, you are going to be in Ketchikan for ONE day, and want to buy a boat for fishing that one day?

I would go to Knudsen Cove and rent a skiff for the day.  That's all you need when the weather is good; when it isn't, you don't want to be out on the water anyway!  Be sure to bring a camera with several SD cards.  Again, if the weather is good you will be taking lots of photos.

What to do besides go fishing?

Not a whole heck of a lot.

I'll second the cab out to Knudson Cove. The guy that rents the skiffs can clue you in on where, what, etc.

While you are there I'd take your rifle along and find yourself a black bear....

It has been a while now since the last reply on this subject--but if I offend anyone for highjacking, I apologize.
The question has too do with a conversation that came up the other day, over coffee at McDonalds.
We are wannabe's.
What salmon is most preferred for different usages.
I am a loss as too identify any salmon at close range.
What do you guys prefer and how prepared?
