I've read some of the nay sayers, but in the political climate present, and current funds available, I purchased a Taurus 1911, tentatively. I'm not sure where the criticism lies, but this is a very nice product.

I agree with those who prefer US made products because they are made in the USA, at least to a point, or points. Those points follow:

1. The fit an finish are great on a firearm in this price range. Heck, the fit and finish are great, period! Few tool marks, inside or out. Nice, close fitting slide, polished where it's supposed to be, etc.

2. The trigger is excellent.

3. The extras on the Taurus are super, they are well installed, and they function.

4. The Taurus drives tacks. Of course, I'm comparing it to a Colt 1911 that was my Grandfathers, but still, the old salty is itself pretty accurate.

I couldn't be happier, given in the duo tone, it's only $550. I looked at a Para, $200 more with way fewer bells and whistles. The Para is nice, but certainly not manufactured with cleaner, nicer fit and finish.

Bottom line, if you can tolerate a non-USA piece, the Taurus gets my thumbs up.

My friend also has a taurus 1911 and It is a pretty nice gun. I think most peoples beef with taurus isn't the product but the quality (or lack of) of their customer service.

Actually it's BOTH. They have way too high a percentage of guns getting out with MAJOR issues in addition to all the normal minor issues all have. Then when you have such a problem getting them to fix it is almost impossible it seems. When you get a good one it can be a really good one and you should hold onto it of course. It's just that your chances of finding a good one seem slim compared to most other brands.

I must be lucky then. I have only had a couple of taurus guns and have had no problems with them. A nine shot 22 revolver and a raging bull in 454.

I own 3 Taurus products, 2 revolvers and a pistol. All have been fine. My most recent purchase of a PT-1911SS has been very similar to yours, the pistol has been flawless so far.

I shot one yesterday, and I must say, I was surprised. The gun functioned perfectly, was very accurate at 15 yds., and is a good buy at $500.

Looking over some of the Taurus 1911 reviews. I bought a Taurus 1911 a few months ago, Spring 09, of recent manufacture. The intent was to gift this NIB gun to a friend. That idea has since fallen apart due to legal(& other) concerns. I'm more of a 40 S&W guy & have never owned a 1911, Taurus, or a 45cal handgun. I've been thinking about if I should keep this 1911 or get rid of it. At the moment I plan to keep it NIB & think it over. I've been scared of Taurus but many of the reviews on this 1911 seem O.K.

I'm up to about 20K thru mine so far. It is pretty accurate, but replace the recoil spring with a better, variable compression product, probably right away (they're 6 bucks, after all). A 16 lb should do the trick. I also use the nylon bumpers when shooting ball ammo. I love mine.

If you got a good one, it might be really, really good. Taurus CS is pathetic.

buddy has one and loves it and he owns has owned a ton of 1911s. Only thing that keeps me from owning one is tarrus bad rep for customer service. I think if i had the same ammount of money to spend id look at a sti spartan. Just as good of a gun and a much better company to back you up when things go wrong.

I can't see myself returning the pistol to Taurus except in the event of a catastrophic failure. Most potential problems, should they occur, will be handled by my friendly neighborhood gun smith.

90% of parts failure problems can be fixed by the owner at less cost than shipping fees to send it to the manufacturer. Not to mention doing without the gun while it is being repaired.

I just picked up one of the new 38 Super Taurus 1911's this weekend. Only found 1 box of ammo in the town and that tonight. Held off buying one of the 45's, but have talked to enough people who sell them here that have had zero complaints on the Taurus platform. That did it for me, and when the lead guy at my favorite gun shop said he was gonna get one, I filled out the papers. Most but not all of my guns are American made, I don't have any guilt about buying the Taurus. DP

I'm assuming you're a reloader. The Super is a reloader's caliber for sure. I'd resist the temptation to run the Super at major power factor. I bet Mr Layton has a wealth of pet loads for the Super. I think he's a bit fond of the cartridge.

Savage, I am in fact a reloader. Who can afford not to be anymore?

Been rollin' my own for over 25 years, 22 Hornet to 45-70, 380 to 454 Casull, and most in between.

I would love to pick Mr. Laytons brain for loads in this caliber, never messed with it before. I seem to like the ones not as common as normal now days, $:-\$ but do still have a few favorites like the 357 mag and 223. Mr. Layton, if you see this, help a newbie with this cartridge, please. DP

I agree............1911's are easy to work on, and if you don't know how to do it yourself, most gunsmith's do.

I bought one of the first PT1911s out. Paid $480 for it. That was some years ago. $565 doesn't seem out of line at today's prices. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I horse traded for a Taurus PT 1911 AR almost a week ago. Shot it that afternoon and can't find a single thing wrong with it. Straight eight sights took a bit of getting used to but after a couple of clips I could keep em in about two inches and in the bullseye at 25 yards. I got to looking at the accessory rail the next day and took one of my old one inch scope rings and with the help of a rubber shim I mounted one of my Streamlight Scorpions in it and finger tightened it to the front groove of the rail. Made a nice bump in the night something to grab and with a couple of turns I can take the whole fixture off.

Have you shot the pistol with the light attached? Curious as to what the muzzle blast will do to the light bezel.

Haven't shot it yet with the light attached. Sorta figured it was for a bump in the night. If that turned into a serious situation and I had to fire the bezel wouldn't matter much. Been thinking of replacing it with a quality laser that was made to fit the gun instead of something I just put together.

Hey, what you have will do the job. I have a couple of Scorpions on my ARs with QD light mounts. They work great! They are far enough back from the muzzle to be out of the blast.
