I would have liked to use a bead for a front sight, but being an offset barrel the bead would have had to be about a half inch tall.  I am going to put a rear sight on the barrel band I use to hold the forearm lug on and then a standard front sight.  I shot it tonight, only at 3 yards, it had about a 2 inch pattern, but it looks like most of the shot went through about a half inch hole in the middle, I think 10 yards will tell the story.  I finished this one off at 20 1/4 inches.  It ejected fine so life is good I think.  Larry

I have some longs and long rifles I will put down the tube just for fun.  At 10 yards that will probably give me a good idea of the real POI for the sights.  I will try to have a target by Sunday.  Larry

be  careful  with  this  gun

the  shot  shells  are  safer  than an  air  rifle  BUT

i  pride  my self  on  safety  BUT

it   is  easy  to get sloppy  with  safety procedure  and

when  patternering  and  testing penetration  on a can

the  can  did not  move.....there  was  one  hole in  the middle

don't  ask  me  how   that solid even got  in  my pocket  and  into the chamber

TREAT  ALL  GUNS  AS  IF THEY  ARE  LOADED  WITH  SLUGS

fortunately  i had  a  safe back stop
this  is  a fear  i have  with  any shot gun

i  once  slipped  a bird  bomb  into  someones  gun at  the skeet  range
then  tolt  him  some one  was  shooting back

Larry. I used to have a Marlin Garden Gun that used the 22 mag shotshell. Using the CCI magnum 22 shot cartridge it was good to about 15 yards. Wish I still had it.

My constant worry is a 20 ga. dropped into a 12 and lodged in the barrel.  I always have lots of both around.  I'm just abouit a fanatic on that one.

Hate to admit it but I once shot a squirrel with a 20ga remmy slugger as the result of the aforementioned slug being mixed in my pocket with some field load 6's. The results wern't pretty.. :'(

Right now like Quick says, it is so hot here that there is nothing going on at all.  When it cools doen some I will finish it off and take it to the range.  I went on Sunday, but only shot two pistols, one was a 38 Special Derringer which I only managed to shoot about 4 times beofe I thought my hand would fall off.  Larry

It cooled down some and I got started on the rear sight.  I will make it fixed, it is built onto the barrel band for the forearm, I milled a little slot in the band and silvered in the blank rear sight.  I have to shape the band and sight and then cut a notch in it, I will wait to cut the notch until I get the front sight on, then I can bore sight it and cut it in the right place.  Things are working I think, I know how much patience kids have so I will try to work faster Mr. DP.  Larry

Barrel band is on, the sight is formed some, just the front sight, sand blast it, parkerize and ship it.  PS:  Fall Bear season opened Saturday, a friend and I are going hunting (and to put ot a camera) in the morning, so it will be a day or so for more progress, have the 25-06 ready for the morning.  Larry

I get easily distracted, but I know DP's kids are probably anxious for their shotgun, so I am moving ahead.  I ganged up two slit saws next to each other to cut a nice wide slot in the barrel for the front sight to fit into.  I decided to soft solder it so I didn't have to get so much metal hot for silver, so I cut the slot to get some mechanical strength for the front sight so it would not break off.  First picture is out of the lathe with the slit saw mounted and the second is the front sight soldered in but not cleaned up.  I am moving on and hope to be done in a day or so.  Larry

Finished.  Here it is, put it in the parkerizing tank after I sand blasted it some.  Not bad for a scrap built barrel.  DPE will have to provide the patterning info for you guys, I am off to Montana for a while next week, so I will ship it to him on Monday.  Larry

Looks mighty pretty Larry.  I'll get it fitted to one of the RF frames for testing.  Just about every night Donny wants to get his rifle out and hold it.  Then he puts it back in the box and puts it away till the next night  8) ;D.  THAT'S MY BOY!  Now he will have to chose whether to hold the shotgun or rifle first :D ;D.  Thanks again Larry, the little man is gonna be pretty excited when he see's it. ;)  DP
