Favorite frames and married barrels
« on: July 27, 2009, 08:16:11 PM »
I have a new G2 and a 6.8 SPC barrel, I had some misfires and the barrel frame gap looked a bit big. I switched to an old frame with less gap and now all is 100%, not one misfire. Plus the other barrel works great in the other frame. Just like people, some are just meant for each other. Anybody else?

Thanx, Russ

Each one of my Contender frames has it's own group of barrels.  Not that they won't work on other frames...it's just that with the right "marriage"(as you said) you get that Fort Knox vault door lock-up.  I was very slow to warm up to the Encore(I still have only one frame), but I'll have to say it has mated to every barrel(9 total) that I have with a very consistent and very positive lock-up.

I also have sets of barrels and frames that work best together to the exclusion of all others. This also allows for better headspace control for handloading. I just built another .204 Ruger carbine on an Armor Alloy frame that locks up with .000" breechface to barrel lockup.

I know to some this defeats the purpose! Out of 18 Encore and Tender barrels I have only my ML barrel doesn't have a dedicated frame. Due to the fouling nature of the ML barrel it is always used with the same SS frame and the frame given a good cleaning before the center fire barrel being reinstalled.

Each one of my frames, Contender and Encore alike, have dedicated barrels.

I didn't worry about dedicating barrels to frames the first 10 years I shot Contenders, but I did the last 30+ years, and still do.   Made a huge difference too.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

If you shoot the 30 Herrett you had better stay with one frame or you will have problems .
