Dave, I'm not doing exactly what you are asking, but I think I can give you some thoughts. I do load for my .45 LC Blackhawk and have an Old Army I shoot also. I load the .45 LC Blackhawk with Goex FFFg (have tried many subs too) and a 200 gr. RNFP Dardas Cast Bullet. Good accuracy and I shoot these in the Ruger old army also with 35gr. FFFg. I use regular CCI Large Pistol primers in the LC loads and Starline or Winchester brass. I have about 200 of each and notice little difference. As for dies, I just use my Lee Deluxe Dies, but if you are a redding man, I don't think it's really critical. I like the carbide dies, since you don't have to lube all the cases. In the Long Colt, I use a drop tube and fill to the point I get about 1/16th inch compression. I don't use a compression die for pistols as it isn't long range shooting.
Here's the place I buy my lead bullets: a 1000 count box is only $85 and I rarely get more than a couple with voids or bad lube per batch. Only thing is his lube isn't a BP specific lube like SPG, so if you will shoot a lot at a time, you might want to special order them unlubed and pan lube them yourself with SPG. I don't believe he offers different lubes, but none was a possibility for my .45-70 bullets I purchased from him also.
