Any recommendations for fiber optic sights?
« on: October 20, 2009, 05:12:04 PM »
Can anyone recommend any fiber optic sights for my SRH?  I'd like some that illuminate well, are easy to see/align, and will allow me to hunt with out to 75 yards.

These may be a little more than you want to spend. IMHO fiber optics are to bright. In the times that deer are most active the sights actually kill my night vision for lack of a better term, in low light just before dark. To make it worse for me the 3 dots make it where you have to try and suspend the front sight just right horizontally and vertically, all the while getting blinded by the dots.

I like the big dot set up. You put the front big dot on top of the line and aim off the top of the dot. The vertical line gives a perfect centering point to aim off of, instead of trying to hover a small dot. Tritium is just faint enough at the low light deer hunting time that it stands out but doesn't impede. Of coarse it also gives you no light sighting as well for home defense, or walking back to the vehicle in the dark if there are bears.

my experience with fiber optics is mostly on lever guns but i quit using them. there very fragile and its easy to break one and not even know it and i found that they actually only gave me a couple more minutes of sight useage. Ive got a lever gun and a few handguns set up with trinium sights and although more expensive is a much better way to go if you insist on shooting past shooting hours. Big dots to me are about the worse sight. They dont add much time in low light and there to crude for accurate work in the daytime. My favorite sight is a a plain black post blade (not a ramp) cut to about .10 in conjunction with a bowen rear sight. The thinner sight blade allows light to show on the sides when looking through the rear sight.

I had a Fire sight on a 16"bareled lever gun and found that it covered too much of the target at range to give a precision shot and it came with a red tube which just washed out at dusk, green is much better. At contact to a max of about 35 yrds I supose they would be okay.
Yes, I know it's cocked, It's got bullets too.
