Peep sights for Henry Big Boy rifles?
« on: July 29, 2009, 01:09:15 AM »
I was surfing through the Brownell's online catalog and found what I thought to be a peep sight for a Henry rifle. However, it was about $125. :o It was a Marble Arms sight: Sight #579-000-166 @ $119 & Screws #579-000-116 @ $6.95

Are there less expensive alternatives, for a peep sight?

Thank you, Bowhunter57

Tim Skinner makes a peep sight that will fit a 3/8" dovetail for a lot less than 125.00. I put one on my Big Boy and it really tightened  up my groups.

I'm guessing you like that setup Grizz; I'm contemplating picking up a BB after my tax returns come in, and though I love the look of those Marble's sights, they aren't the easiest on the eyes, and don't provide the crispest sight picture in the world. My best friend made a slide out of light steel and drilled an aperture in it for my H001T and it works great; just slips on the Marble's rear sight in place of the factory 'sight plate' with it's U and V notches. I could envision doing something like that for the BB, though I wonder if one of those Skinner sights would allow for more adjustment capability. I'm guessing yours has enough adjustment in it to let you shoot the loads you like, where you want 'em to go? Just a curious fellow here, don't mind me ::) ;D

Kind Regards,

Hi .450, I do like this peep because with my old eyes the U notch in the oem sight for some reason I couldn't be consistant with it. The peep tighened my groups considerably. I didn't want to scope it cause I wanted to keep it some what traditional. The rifle comes with a Marbles sight but I just couldnt make it work. Tim's sight comes with a .096 apature which is removable turning the peep into a ghost ring, both work well.

Did the front sight have to be replaced with the skinner sight?

the skinner sights are great on my 357.  Easy to install. Bore sighted with a laser in my house and at the range I had to adjust the elevation.  This was at 25 yards.  I didn't measure the groups.

After installing the Skinner sight on  my 357mag Big Boy my groups tightened up considerably. The front sight worked fine with rear Peep.

I have several Skinner sights and they are excellent for use on lever guns like the Henry.

Great photos!

Our barrel mounts have been used by many Henry owners and we continue to receive calls and Emails daily requesting sight options for the wonderful Henry rifles.

In response to the numbers of requests, I've been looking into some ideas for the Henry's.

First of all...   The 30-30 Henry rifle accepts any of our 336/1895 sights.  Tactical, standard, or express.  My favorite is the Express sight on these rifles.  Its low, sleek, and available in blue and BRASS which compliments the brass frame.

The Big Boy and the Golden boy can be drilled and tapped to fit either the Skinner Marlin 1894 sight or the Marlin model 39 sight.

Perhaps Henry would consider drilling and tapping the receivers of these beautiful rifles so that they would accept Skinner sights?

Meanwhile, the Skinner Barrel Mount ( www.skinnersights.com ) is a great option for any Henry Rifle.
