I was looking into getting a .45-70 for some informal Cowboy Action type shooting at our local range but have trouble justifying the expense.  I remembered the buffalo classic but never thought it was authentic due primarily I guess to the fact that it has a modern looking sight on it and looked like my first shotgun.  I found out recently however that it is an authentic pre 1900s rifle and that it seems like there were a lot of them used by people that couldn't afford a Sharps or Remington Rolling Block back in the day.  What I can't seem to find are any articles or pictures or anything about these antiqe "handi's".  Surely there has been a book or magazine article on these somewhere right?  I would really like to see some pictures of the antiques and thought you fellas might know.  I like the history of things.  Thanks in advance.

There is a good photo of a frank wesson rifle there.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Well, I guess the first thing to say is the .45-70 isn't an expense.......it's an investment.  My 22 inch shoots the pants off everything I own, and is still worth more than I paid for it.  GET THE .45-70 ;) ;)  There's lots of posts on it here, and you can load it from chipmunks to brown bear.  A friend of mine in Florida scored on a Wesson and Harrington .45-70.  I know he "stole" it, but I don't think he's shot it much to give you any information.

Pete.

Thanks for trying to help.   I did find that one picture in my search but next to nothing else.  Kinda disappoints me.

Yes,  I meant the expense of a Sharps not a Handi.  Sorry I wasn't clear.
