Broken Vanguard help
« on: August 04, 2009, 12:20:13 PM »
Well i don't know how it happened, i was away, but the pin/pivot spot for the bolt stop was broken off, so the bolt just comes out whenever you operate the action. I don't know where i could find a new pin. i can find the bolt stop but no pins.
its a .300Wby 20" barrel

It's not a pin, but a screw. Just call up Weatherby, I've had good luck getting small parts directly from them.

call weatherby eh? alright i can try that. don't know how it happened, just came home on leave and the bolt came out when i opened the action. most everyone is afraid to shoot it.

Yeah 20" barrel, it came that way. got it for like $140+ a Yugo M48. it had rust on the barrel so my guess was the previous owner left it somewhere it should not have been, and had to cut the barrel down. its re-crowned and shoots under 1 1/2" when i'm not being a wimp about being kicked in the eye by the scope

Yes call Weatherby - it is a Weatherby rifle and they are located in the US - Weatherby at (805) 227-2600 - don't understand the attitude issue.

Okay, I'm confused....  Is the poster's gun a VANGAURD or a Yugo M-48 that got chambered to .300 Weatherby?  If the latter, I think its obvious that calling Weatherby won't do much good.  If a Yougo M-48 then I would think that just about any bolt stop screw for an M-98 Mauser would work.

Pretty much like orginally written.  I reckon I better learn how to read......

.300 WBY Mag out of a 20" tube must be very interesting to shoot when the sun is low on the horizon.  I had a Ruger No. 1 B in .300 WBY and the muzzle flash with some factory loads was dazzling.  I can only imagine what it would have been like with 6 inches lopped off the barrel !

Hope you get your rifle up and running.....

yeah, i think the short barrel robs it of some power, but the muzzle blast makes up for it :). i like my M44 Mosin-nagant for its short barrel.
I do get hit by the scope a bit too much, so i need to have it threaded for a brake i think.

what kind of scope is on it now? you might be able to get one with more eye relief
common sense is slowly becoming uncommon
