Model 740 V 6"
« on: July 04, 2009, 04:24:12 PM »
I just picked up a 740 with the original box, paper work, extra barrel, barrel wrench, shim, b-square mount, Leupold M8 2x, aluminum hard case, 136 rounds of Rem 158 gr, and 40 rounds of Rem 180 gr, Rem ammo is in the original boxes, also 24 empty cases. I think that that may be the total round count. for 900.00
I already have a contender in 357 max so have been loading for that. Can't wait for the sun to rise to see how well it shoots. I may have to use it for deer season this year. I don't think I will be disappointed

I've got the blued model 40 and just got it back from DW; had it totally worked over, as it was getting a little loose from over 15 years of heavy loads.  I recommend that you shoot the 158's in the Contender barrel.  The Supermag revolvers were designed for the heavy bullets and your best accuracy will be with 180 and 200gr bullets.  I use a 200 LBT gas checked that will drive tacks at 100 yds.  I also have the Contender barrel and use the lighter bullets with good results.

I probably won't use the factory stuff as I have a bunch of new brass. i have been shooting 180 gr WFNGC's in the contender and will try them first in the DW. Minn whitetails are not that big where I hunt and the ranges are not that great. I'm thinking that the 200 gr WFN, would work well on bears.

The deer that I've shot here in Ky have all been bang/flop with the 200gr LFN's so the WFN's should give more punch and definitely a larger hole.  My long shots have been with the contender, but I did take one at around 120yds with the DW with the 8" barrel, and it was a broadside through and through.
