Comments about Shara Palin
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:11:28 AM »
Smart, attractive, packs a gun and she ain’t afraid to take the big boys on in a fight.  Sounds like she could easily replace the bum we currently have in the White House, and do a much better job. ::) ::)

As posted in comments on Greta’s artical referncing the MOVEON ad about Sarah Palin

by Dewey Whetsell

The last 45 of my 66 years I’ve spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here’s the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it…It’s not about persona, style, rhetoric, it’s about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I’m about to mention here.

1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor’s office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican’s “Corrupt Bastards Club” (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits. The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing “la la la la” (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you’re thinking, I’ll continue.

2- Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So, she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called “ACES”. Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them “don’t let the door hit you in the stern on your way out.” They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3- The other thing she did when she walked into the governor’s office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as “pork”. She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the “when-hell-freezes-over” stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we’ll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor’s jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor’s cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning—I imagine—that she’s packing heat herself). I’m still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4- Now, even with her much-ridiculed “gosh and golly” mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn’t impress you, then you’re trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.
5- For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn’t start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. This summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

6- President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona . Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that’s just a cover-up. I’m still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won’t be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn’t let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

Rockbilly:  Thanks for saying the thing we Alaskans know, in such a way the rest of the folks in the nation can understand.   And so everyone else knows she did not quite.  She was in a position where she was unable to do any thing due to all the frivolous ethics complaints being issued.  And the liberal side of our state legislature suddenly turned against her when she received national recognition.  So she did the best thing for the state and resigned so Sean Parnell can now take the reins and move the state forward.

I don't know as much about Palin as the people of Alaska, but a lot folks in my area like her a lot, and don't think she's a quitter either.  She has enemies on both sides, because she has exposed both sides, and some people with money are out to get her too, probably even some oil company execs too.
I know there are republicans with money out to get her, she busted some of them.  That's a lot of rich folks trying to take her down, including tax money wasted on it.
Even when not in office she has a higher rating than the speaker of the house and all of congress, so you can imagine they hate her too.
I would not want to see her in the exec office, only because the power is in congress and they can shut that down.  I want to see about 400 men and women with the same attitude as she has in congress.  The president, whoever that may be...will fall in line with that right away or soon after.
Michigan would be so lucky as to have Palin instead of what we got.  Btw...our governor is trying to raise taxes on bottled water now, cause she's losing 50 milliion per month in tax income.  That is because those of us who still have a job, refuse to spend any money, and people without jobs can't spend.  We'll start spending when they stop. I wonder who can last longer.  Palin has higher rating in SW Michigan than our own governor does, and she don't even live here.  American Thinker has had some really good stories on Palin for a number of years, I had read about her long before she was picked to run with Mac.
Nobody then was making things up or disputing the things she had done.  Not many go after their own party and expose things like she did either.  That should tell you something about a person right there.  I like people that agree with me...don't care if it's Palin or someone like Rush Limbaugh, if they agree with me...what's wrong with that?  Most  people to the way left think we follow people like that...when in fact we are pretty smart and thought like that already and are glad they agree with us, and have a microphone too.  I hope Palin is a thorn in their side and a burr under their saddle no matter what she does.

In MHO Sarah Palin will beat out Lisa Murkowski next year and go into the US Senate.  From there she will gain status or get squashed.  It's a wait and see game.  Rog

I still think Sarah should run for the House as a Representitive from Alaska.  Then get elected as Speaker of the House.  Since there will be a power upset in the 2010 elections, she could be a replacement for Peosi.  That would make Barack contained and restrained.   Just a dream I keep having.  Don

I think Sarah should pack up her husband and kids and come to the State of Washington.  We desperately need her.

Her stepping down from office seemed to dumfound the leftists more than anything else she did. I think I know why. They, the leftists and for that matter many alledgedly conservative pols are so corrupted by their quest for power that they can not comprehend that a politician could actually put his or her constituancies well being before his or her own. Additionally she has proven that she is not afraid to call a spade a spade. I think they have a deep and mortal fear of her, that is why they attack her at every turn.

I am a fan of Palin's  but have a much different recollection of events described above.  Only one former legislator is in jail today, Tom Anderson, and he was not accused of anything related to the oil companies.  All the other accused and tried legislators and congressmen are out or have never been tried, and the federal prosecutors are now being investigated; I hope the federal prosecutors go to jail.

Frank Murkowski, not S. Palin, changed the state oil tax system from a severance tax (called the ELF) to a profits tax.  Palin tweaked it to tax at a higher rate, taking advantage of anti-Exxon sentiment in the legislature.  Murkowski did the heavy lifting and the technical work.

Palin did not cut receipt of federal spending.  She did veto about $250 million of state capital spending (state oil tax income), and in doing so became the only conservative governor Alaska has ever had.

I think that Exxon continues to outsmart the state in regards to Point Thomson.  No oil or gas has come from Point Thomson.

Palin reverted to the same gas line model that Murkowski tried except now we have to pay TransCanada $500 million.  We still need the producers to come to the open season, and they need tax relief or they will not be there.

I believe Palin has been more honest than and has outsmarted Obama on health care.  Palin is honest.  Obama is not.

Alaska has only had one anti-gun rights governor, Tony Knowles.  But Palin understands gun rights as well as supports them.  Therefore I will always vote for her at every opportunity.

Palin could not beat Murkowski today to take her senate seat in a general election.  But of  course they presumably would run against one another in the closed Republican primary, and I do not know about that.  I would be surprised if Palin ran against Lisa Murkowski.

Alaska renewable energy is hydro power, and for some reason the greenies and the Democrats will not recognize hydro power.  Thanks for your time.
