How to tell if a grip is Old or G2
« on: May 18, 2009, 11:16:37 AM »
I've come across grips that are unidentified.  Is there any way of easily telling if they will fit an old or new style Contender?

Thanks.

Most all the forend grips are rounded where they come in contact with the frame this is to clear the little bump out on the G2 frame they also look like a Encore grip only a little smaller, on the butt grip the angle is different so that wound would have to be tried on frame or make you a guage to check the angle. I have never seen a grip set for g2 that had any checkering, but there are a lot of older style out there with no checkering. You can also measure the width on the grips and check what you find as there is about 1/6 or more difference from old to g2. maybe this will help some.

The angle of the inletted area in relation to the thru bolt hole are the same 30 degrees, on both the old style and the G2. The difference is the location of the thru bolt hole. On the older Contender the thru bolt hole is more to the center of the inletted area. The G2 is positioned more off center towards the top of the inletted area. The Encore is the same as the G2 but the inletted area is wider. A little over 1".
