I go into have a CT on Wednesday and back to the Dr. on Friday.
The CT will determine the type of surgery.
There are two surgery procedures used. The least invasiveis is doing a stint. They open up the aoreta at the groin and insert the stint. That is basically outpatient surgery.
Depending on the CT, the size, and exact location of the embolism a stint may not work. Then the have to go into the abdominal cavity--re-arrange the gut and do a bypass.
Should this be the case, I will be referred to another surgon and this will delay the surgery a few days.
This surgery will require 3 days in ICU and a 10/12 day stay in the hospital.
Imano.
