which 22lr
« on: August 28, 2009, 05:29:47 PM »
Hi guys,  I've been readng for about a month now and I'm waiting on my new G2 to show up I just ordered off GB.  I have a 14" ribbed 410 for skeet shooting and hunting rabbits and squirrels.  I want a 22lr for squirrel hunting and learning to shoot the contender.  What I can't decide on is 10", 12" or 14".  Also, I'm not sure about scope, reddot or iron.  I shoot competition IDPA but I know hunting is different with a pistol.  Any advice?  thanks, Mike

Can't offer much help with the Contender, I just ordered my first G2 and I'm waiting for it to come into Fox Ridge. I do allot of hunting with a ruger single six and I can say this. I have two cylinders, 22lr and 22mag. I shoot open sights and the 22lr does allot of meat damage with body shots on squirrels and rabbits so I only take head shots and I mostly carry 22mag in case I have a chance at a yote or fox. I ordered my G2 in 44 mag for deer but I'm already considering a rimfire barrel for small game. I'll probably go with a 17hmr or 22 mag from the custom shop. I hope this helps.

I shoot tons of .22 lr with a V16 Weaver scope. The 10" barrel is decently accurate to 100 meters. Most people can't control the trigger pull as well as the Contender can shoot.  In open sights with a 22 Contender, I lay my left index finger down the side of the frame to hold it steady. I can hit silhouettes with it but, nothing beats a scope, just nothing beats it! :)
