My first AR
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:35:48 PM »
Okay, i just bought my first AR.  RRA from a guy at work.  $800 for the rifle w/hard case, (4) 30 rnd mags, and 120 rounds of ammo.  Hope I did okay on the deal, they've been going for alot more around here.  Reguardless, looking for a good place to get just general info on loading for it and such.  Anything tips out there?  Looking for info on good optics for it.  Affordable, but functional.
thanks.

Congrats!  It is addicting.  I started with my first one (Bushmaster Varminter) about 4 years ago.  I now have a DPMS AP4 (.308), a in-process M4 clone, and I have 3 stripped lowers sitting around.

BTW, depending on the round count, you got a pretty good deal!  What model did you pick up?

to be honest i'm not sure about the model.  i believe it's an A4.  Very low round count, probably less than 200 rnds.  upper and lower fit together very snug, looks almost new.  I'm thinking about a holo sight, or a mildot scope.  I haven't used a holo sight before, so i'm leaning toward a 3-9 compact scope.

What is your planned use for it? If target shooting or varmint hunting then by all means scope it but plan on getting the tallest rings you can find and then you still might need risers. If for self defense then then I'd say get an EOTech Holosight or Aimpoint.

planned to just target shoot with it unless i get an upper in 300FB.  So I'll likely be putting on a compact scope as i'll want to shoot at least 200yds.
