Making .257 weatherby brass?

Is it posible to form .257 WBY brass from .300WBY brass?  I've read I can make it from 7mm and 264 mag brass but end up with short necks.  Is that a problem?  Also how about making it from 300 win mag brass would that solve the short neck problem?  Sorry if the questions are crazy, just trying not to have to buy the wby brass, pretty spendy.  Thanks for the help, Kris

 ;) I used to form some .257 brass from .264 cases. It was a bit short, I also formed 7mm Wea. brass from 7mm Rem. It was a bit shot also, but inturn, one did not have to worry about trimming the cases for a bit. I would watch the neck thickness if I sized down 7mm to 257, as I remember, the .264 worked fine..

Back when Remington loaded 7mm Weatherby ammo I bought a lot of their empty brass.   It was an easy job to form those into .257 Weatherby cases, the case necks were fine.   Forming .300 Weatherby brass into .257 cases will result in thick necks as you will be using the thicker shoulder area for the .257 neck; this means neck turning.  I would not use short .264 or 7mm Magnum cases in a Weatherby, you will wash out some of the neck area and could have difficulty later if you do use the correct .257 ammo.  Your choice.
