If you had a choice  between the 7-30 Waters and the 300 Whisper for whitetails which one would you choose? They are both 14" Contenders. A long shot would probably be 125 yards. Let's hear some answers folks. Oh yea, Tell me why you picked that caliber?

I only have experience with the 7-30.  I loved it!!!  Shot great with little recoil and was very accurate.  Infact, I shot a 10 pt with it 1st time out.  But then I got an itch and traded it towards a Sako rifle.  Man! I love my Sako, but wish I still had that Contender in 7-30.

7-30waters, easy choice! for me,a .300whisper would be a good 10" barrel setup, if i used 10" barrels. i prefer the 14" barrels, and the 7-30waters should out perform the whisper.  :idea:  unless, i were thinking of rechambering the .300 to 30-30AI.  :grin:

This one is easy for me.The 7-30 waters is a great round I have a 12" and 14" tube.Both are very accurate I have taken whitetails and muledeer with no problems.

In Illinois for the January handgun season you can't use a case over 1.4" in length, so I bought a 300 Whisper.  I had a 7-30 in a carbine setup and really liked it.  The 300 is very accurate and has very little recoil.  Out to 125 yds I think the Whisper would be fine.

check out Illinois natural resorces page about the new hand gun hunting regs. they way I read it you can use a pistol in shotgun season and it gives no restriction on case length. check it out

I've had both and I second KYODE's nomination.  In 14" barrels the 7-30 is easy winner.  Now if we are talking 10" barrels, the Whisper might get a recall.  GOOD SHOOTIN'  Walt  :D   :D   :D
