RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

With all the smoke coming off of that fuse I thought we were getting ready for the launch of the shuttle  :D

When the B-O-O-M went off I was convinced it was the shuttle.

After watching these two videos and looking at Dom's website to check out the max powder load for this thundermug, I have a question.  A friend of mine gave me a several cans of black powder that his father had and wanted to dispose of.  Several grades were included.  Cannon grade up to or down to FFFF.  Included with it was an eight ounce can with a cool picture of an indian on it. He gave it to me because he knows I have a few cannons and mortars.  The question is, can I safetly "dispose" of this powder using a thudermug such as the ones shown in this thread?  This powder has some age to it as the FFF and FFFF appears to have stuck together around the cover.  I tried some cannon grade in my golf ball bore Parrott (750 grains) and it did not boom at all. It just sort of wooshed and made a spectacular display of sparks in front of the barrel.

Old black powder properly stored may be even better than new.  But improperly stored, it will tend to pick up mositure from the air.  I have some FFFg that has been stored in powder flasks that does the same thing.  I have been trying to dehumidify it by placing the flasks in the freezer to draw the water out but have not yet tested it to see it that works.

wouldnt it be possible to vacuum dry it ??
same as one of my friends does with some very high quality wood for special furnitures

I expect vacuum drying would work fine, although you don't want to get all the moisture out.  But most people don't have a vacuum pump while they do have a freezer.
