Great Shootin .32

 I was out sighting in my Green Mtn .32 cal drop-in for my TC Renegade today and wow! Was loading 20 gr 3F Triple 7 and 110 gr maxiball. Great goups at 20 yds for some squirrel tomorrow. Until, I forgot to take the damn ramrod out after firing 25 bullets :( So much for hunting bushytails in the morning.

SOOOOOOO How far did the ram rod go
Every body has done something like that at one time or another
They just dont have enough guts to post it

I forgot to put an overshot card in one barrel while hunting with my old navy arms fowler and as I am trying to sneak up on this unsuspecting squirrel I here this shhhhhhhhh and then what sounds like rain hitting all the leaves on the ground around me and what is left of my shot charge dribbling out the end of the barrel
As the squirrel stood there and laughed at me ,(although not as hard as my buddy hunting with me) I nailed him with the other barrel

As long as we're fessin up.  I sent a fiberglass ramrod downrange from my 50 cal TC Thunderhawk.  I was loading it when someone wanted to go downrange to check targets so for safety reasons I left the ramrod in the barrel to remind myself not to double charge it.  Guy came back to the firing line and I picked up my gun and set it on the sand bags and touched it off.  It kicked so hard the scope came back and cut my glasses above my nose and the scope knocked me in the head pretty good.  I was stunned and thought I had double charged it but then remebered I hadn't because I had the ramrod in the barrel, ramrod.....what ramrod?  Where's the ramrod?  Cost $20 to replace it.  Never found it in the berm.

I also have a GM .32 drop in .Very acurate!! So far I have only used round balls. Only down fall I have found to this setup is the weight.Arms stretch about 2"every time I go out hunting.I make to much noise with my knuckles dragging in the leaves.

What does leaving a ramrod in the barrel do to the barrel?  Does it cause a ring or other damage?  I use a steel loading rod with a round shift knob on the end for a handle so I would hope that I'd see it before it went boom!

It didn't seem to affect the barrel any, that last shot made was only an inch off the mark!! Or was it the ramrod :?  It flew 60 yards

Only damage done was to my glasses and my forehead.  Gun was fine.

Sir:  my gm .32 barrel will accept the swaged hornady .32 bulk lead bullets made for the 32 H&R mag if i use a .005 precut ox-yoke patch.  i also use the lee tl .32 swc  mold  to make bullets  with the .005 patch.  every shot touching at 35 yards with the right load of 3f.  very economical.   olduvai george

You're patching a conical?  All the advice I've seen has warned against it.  I couldn't tell you why though.

Man, am I glad I read this post, I thought I was the only one that ever did that on the range. Fortunately, I have my own range, and no one was watching at the time. I did the same thing, in that I loaded my favorite .54 percussion, and left the ram rod in so I wouldn't forget and put a charge over the other one, walked down range to check the target, returned, picked up my faithful companion, and thought whoa, that was one healthy charge, as I touched er off. Walked down to the target again, noting no hole, and figured I musta double charged it, went to recharge it, dropped the powder in, started the patch and ball with the short started, and thought what in the he!! did I do with the ramrod?  I found the fiber glass ramrod nearly 200 yards down range, scraped up but still serviceable, fortunately it didn't do any dmage to the bore. RR:oops:

Sir: of course i patch a conical.  keeps it on the powder and provides a bit of seal just it does for rb.  sometimes paper patch too, but thats  a pita for .32 conical.  if you had a big heavy bench gun you would patch a conical, so why not a nice light 42" barrel squirrel rifle?   george
