ruger 77/22 stock
« on: November 25, 2003, 05:04:15 PM »
I have a ruger 77/22 in 22 mag and I am going to buy a new barrel forchambered for  the 17 to put in the action.  the only problem I have is that I cannot find a stock for the 77/22 that will take a .920 barrel.  Can I just modify mine to fit with sand paper and a dremal tool or does anyone make a stock for this rifle that will fit a heavy barrel.  I am really ready to figure this out so I can order my barrel.  I really don't want to pay a lot for a custom stock so the cheaper the better(to a certain degree).  Any hep would be greatly apperciated.  thanks, brandon

Elkridge benchrest stock  http://www.reamerrentals.com/elkridge2.htm makes stocks for the 77/22 and by taking a dowel or socket set (right size) you can wrap sand paper around it and channel out the stock to fit your barrel. There is a tool from Brownell   http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Home/default.aspx   that makes it quit easy to do...if you want to pay the money.
