Life Time Licenses

I found out yesterday when I went to get mine that my understanding of Alabama's "old fart's life time license" as I prefer to call it sure ain't what I understood it to be. Since I'm only 64 now but will turn 65 before the current license year ends I was required to buy a normal license but it has no expiration date on it. I'll never need to buy another but I don't have to carry this one either. Once ya turn 65 here no license is required just your driver's license I was told.

That ain't what I understood from what I had read but then I've found my reading comprehension skills seem to be on the decline these days.

I guess the life time license ya pay for here is only for the younger guys. When it was put in place I did the math and it was cheaper to just buy annually and wait for age 65.

I got my lifetime hunting and fishing license here in Alabama back in 80 or 81 and the price then was $300.00. I understand that they've gone a good bit higher since then.

Looking today in the book I picked up from them when I got my license it varies really by age when you buy it. I seem to recall the prices now are $300, $400 or $500 depending on how old you are.

I've forgotten what it was when I first became aware of it but adding up the then cost of license and multiplying by the years I had left until 65 it was less money to pay annually and didn't have to put all it out up front.

That's what I did when I got my Lifetime Fishing license.. Couldn't afford both, and at the time I had a boat and plenty of time to fish. Now I'm lucky to see the lake...

Wal I won't ever have to buy either again but since all my fishing is pretty much done at my own pond I really didn't need the fishing license this time and wouldn't have had to buy one ever again after this time. Had I better understood it I'd not have spent that $12 but it's not a biggie and they won't ever again get money from me so I don't begrudge them that small fee even if I'm not likely to fish other than at my pond.

Welcome to the old fart's no licenses club Bill. I haven't bought a hunting or fishing license for several years now when I hit the magic number. I was like you in my thinking too... I wanted to buy myself a lifetime hunting and fishing license. I did the math and it came out that I could just buy annual licenses for the last years that I bought them rather than spend a lot of money on a lifetime license. I never could understand why they didn't have reduced rates for older people on those lifetime licenses. Anyway, now all I need is a drivers license to hunt and fish.

In N.Y. lifetime senior sportsman (65+yrs) is only $50.00,you pay your money,you take a chance.
