I got my first bow kill Sunday night! It was an especially great feeling because there was some redemption that came with it. Around 4:30 that afternoon I had a doe walk by at about 25 yards. She came by on my left side and since I'm left handed I had to turn completely around to get into position. I was able to do that and draw back without making a sound...and then I muffed the shot. Right over her back. Needless to say I was a little mad at myself for a few minutes. Then right around 7:00 a doe and a fawn walked by at 20 yards. I sent an arrow her way and heard the "thwack" and knew I'd hit her. And to my surprise she went straight down. That arrow had also gone high and it hit her in the spine. She was only about 120 lbs. dressed but that's ok because the small ones are easier to drag out. I've been bow hunting for three years now and have had many close calls, including a miss on my first day ever of bowhunting because of misjudged yardage, so to finally get this one under my belt is really exciting!
I think both my shots went high because with everything happening a lot faster than I thought it would, I didn't think to aim low to account for the angle. And I hope that now that I've had that little experience I will be better about it in the future.
