ATV gun racks......Help!!!
« on: July 19, 2009, 01:52:08 AM »
I just got my first ATV, it's a polaris 500.  It was an 07' hold over, and priced right.  I must say I don't know how I have made it this long not having one.  This has opened up a whole new world of travel.  I used to walk and bike my trap lines and the same for checking out new bear baiting spots.  I can sure cover more ground now then ever.......I put a back rack on it, I got it from Cabelas.  I had to pull the whole ATV rack off and pre-fab the rack on it.  I have a moulded front rack, and would like to put a gun rack on it.  Do I need to go to Polaris to get a "Pipe rack" to fit the moulded rack so I can put a gun/bow rack on it?  Any help would be great.......

I bought a used low milage Grizzly 660 last Dec.. I need to put something on mine for my rifle. I going with the Koplin Scabbard and moulded base mount. A rack where your rifle is in the open offers no weather or obsacle protection. I'm going to add a set of Rhino padded grips to carry another person's rifle if needed.

Here's a link to Bass Pro for the scabbards and grips. The link is huge but works. BTW, the throttle assist on the page that comes up is worth while for long rides. I have carpal tunnel and it really helps me.

I mounted a large plastic milk crate on the front of my atv.  I then strapped a Koplin gun boot to the crate and front rack with large zip ties.  The boot is mounted between the crate and the handle bars on a slight angle with the stock a little higher then the muzzle.  Its well protected and handy.  Most of the time I don't use the part that covers the stock unless the weather is bad.  Works good for me.

I like the Koplin but I no longer have it on my ATV.  I use mine as a carry case.  It can be locked and shipped on an airline.

Great for guns without scopes, otherwise your going to beat it to death.

I either carry my gun slung across my head, on my off shoulder or in a padded guncase strapped on the front rack...
