Slim, get some pepper spray. carrying a sap will get you in trouble, and in the lawsuit against you it will drive the punative damages through the roof.

BILL. My heart has swelled up, doc says it's not uncommon after open heart surgery. If I lift heavy objects it gets worse, or over exert myself I get where I can barely breathe, gasping for air. God made the human body so that everything had it's own place, my heart is too big for it's allotted space and presses on my lungs which restricts my breathing. Even eating a big meal makes it hard to breathe. No known cure, just prayer. Surgery was almost 6 years ago, the swelling has developed over the last 1 1/2 year or so. Now my walks in the woods aren't as long as I want anymore but as long as I stop and catch my breath I'm fine. A round of fisticuffs would have to end quickly cause I would not be able to breathe and possibly die. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

you dont need pepperspray, you dont need a blackjack, your dont need a knife, you dont need a gun.  you NEED to use a little foresight.  you NEED to use some of that experience you mention.  you NEED to lose the chip on your shoulder before you do something that really puts your @$$ in a sling.
and fyi, my smile is bigger than it has ever been.   you have a nice day, and i really do mean this, good luck.

Why not get a sword cane from coldsteel.

Best check your state laws about sword canes.  In FL if you do not have a CCW permit and get caught with a sword cane you will be charged with carrying a concealed weapon illegally.

I'm of the same thoughts as GB.   I ain't 20 anymore, got a bad heart, bad knees, on blood thinners which would cause me to bleed out very easily from just a real good punch.  I let go of my ego a long time ago and replaced it with humility.

I carry good pepper spray and a cane every day for things that I can't walk away from.    If something more than the spray or walking stick is needed then I will be trying to survive and the perp will get final surprise.
I'm just tryin' to keep everything in balance, Woodrow. You do more work than you got to, so it's my obligation to do less. (Gus McCrae)

i got the slugger bat ...as you get old an living where i do ,,one probably thinks too much from a standpoint of bg ...im covered at home to the point that it takes a few minutes to disarm the house if the grand kids come...but i can get away with too much protection forever if i want to go to the trouble...i live outa hollaring distance of anybody...
to little effort toward protection,, just has to be the case one time...even my brother in laws sage advice was if you use you gun ..don t leave a live witness ...this guy  drives the brown truck....
in light of that,, i would assume an burglers mo,, whos probably been watching a lotta t v also is no witnesses..
now for me i gotta stop at getting him stopped ....what ever that takes,, especially at home...
this because i try to be a christian...
now my first option on the street is a some more mean pepper spray ...when i first got one of this version ...i shot myself in the face with it ...if its the policy of our finest i figured it was not something i was too good for... now i know it will stop any man that can feel anything..a man is just not gonna walk thru it... that is my evaluation of this pepper spray... if he does..i oughta be able to handle him in that state..
this tool ive made is added insurance an not against the law...plus its fun to play with ...
i sure cant work out on a bag no more so what i have left is an ole slam man ... gets rid of my aggression n,,improves coordination ,,gain a skill,,plus a heart work out...i practice on the body...like i said in my first post i was impressed with
the precise body attack...i know about the adams apple shot an couple of others but those are kill hits...in short this guy coulda killed me easy.... have a great day brothers... slim
ps you gotta remember im retired,, i gotta stay active some how..im delivering stuff for an organization this evening...
aint i  good ..the lord didn t advise us you shout our good deeds from the house tops did he...
im just giving an example of things i do to stay busy...pray in you closets brothers an in public
to set a good example..

Charlie, I sure never heard that word before. I have something not all that different I guess and while the doctors still claim to have no clue why I have the same kinda shortness of breath issues you do I suppose it could be related to my heart as well. I have thickened walls in mine. They say it is from so many years of way too high blood pressure. But none of the many doctors I've been to regarding the shortness of breath issues/low blood oxygen level have suggested that as the cause. Growing old aint' for sissies.

Bill,  I had shortness of breath and dizziness associated with the least bit of excercise for over fifteen years starting about age 40.  Had reasonably medicated hypertension and regular visits with Doc to no avail.  Finally had heart attack five years ago & got a couple stents.  The shortness of breath and other symptoms went away immediately and never returned.  Prior to the stents, my arteries looked like worms left out in the sun.  My LDL cholesteral was 112 when I had the heart attack and it's around 65 now (meds).

Hope this helps someone.

I've been on Lipator for a few years. My cholesterol is in excellent shape tho I forget the numbers now. I've had to heart cath's. The first I was told the worst blockage was 20% and that they don't fix them at that level. Last one I was told I had zero blockages.

I've been to GPs, heart specialists (several) and lung specialists (several) and had so many tests that the billed costs prior to insurance by now likely is well over a quarter million bucks. Not a single one of them have come up with a single idea on why my blood oxygen level is so low or why I have such a shortness of breath. I've given up on finding an answer or cure and learned to live with it.

I went to a couple GPs and one heart specialist and they didn't knows anything either, except about billing.  They were experts at that.

I see my Doc 2x yearly now, cause he needs to eat too & I don't take him too seriously either. The experts he refers me to didn't know anymore than I did, maybe less.  Blame the clinics not the MDs.  If we had to diagnose & treat 5 people an hour, we wouldn't know s *^# either.

Best indicator of future health concerns is genetics.

CPAP. Been living with it for years and now with an oxygen concentrator to boot. Supposed to be on oxygen 24-7 but refuse to use it during the day at least for now.

BILL. Having an enlarged heart is not uncommon. A set of Xrays found my trouble, my lungs are clear. I also have peripheral artery disease, a bad rt knee and shoulder. Glucosamine chrondroitin sulphate give my knee and shoulder a lot of relief. My doc has urged me to sign up for disability for several years now,  I might look into it after Christmas, because work has really been getting to me lately. I doubt I'd qualify anyway, I'm a white American citizen, hmmmmm, maybe if I changed my name to Nelsonista. I've worked all my life, kinda hard to just quit working. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

nothing wrong with a person getting counseling...its the ones that don t or are ashamed of it
that need it most but its my opinion everyone needs it at certain times in thier life..
again you just do not understand my intent at all.. so one more time ill say it..
i know you mean well even tho ive stated what my intent is.... to keep from killing a bg if ,,he doesn t have a knife or anything except an wharped mind..if i use my ccw in that situation in n.c. the only way im not
charged with murder or homicide of some degree,,, is if i bury the body... i don t need to have that read to me as i walk that valley ,,we ALL GONNA WALK..talking to a leo today whom i showed my tool to ...his
comment was  ,,the pepper spay can get you in trouble now here in stanly county..if you use this to
take the offence out of an gang member ,,hes never gonna tell any body probably...whats he gonna say....some old man broke my forearm or both my collar bones... as the law here is written its the only choice...other than cowdown an bushwhack the fella later... im not gonna do nothing like that.
and i am not giving albemarle to the gangs
when the gangs win this area they ll kill me if  im not gone already.. but they don t own this area right now..
inner city charlotte is full of it...ive seenum knock an old lady dn an take her purse,, while a crowd was watching..
nobody lifted a hand to help her...i came in a store to call the police... fella named reece who owned the store said never mind..
i was the bread man for a year or so in that area as one of my jobs of the time..... ps you guys mostly carry an the antis think the same thing of you as you apparently do me..i wasn t trying to talk you into this thing anyway..
that be your buisiness..the laws in your state may allow you to shoot a big mex whos beating t5he hell out of you...
not true here in this state..has that really soaked into anyones head yet..oh well have a good nite fellas.

Slim, you might want to do some more checking into the NC law on CCW. I see this comment:
Quote
Deadly Force / Castle Doctrine:
North Carolina is a Castle Doctrine state and has a stand-your-ground law.
listed on this website when I did a bit of searching on the matter. Here's the site: http://www.usacarry.com/north_carolina_concealed_carry_permit_information.html

Generally speaking states with castle doctrine laws allow use of deadly force anytime you fear for your life and do not require you to retreat or run. I'm NOT saying that's the case in NC but only that this matter might be worth a bit more research. Unless NC's castle doctrine law is quite different from most you might be able to do a lot more than you think you can at present. That lawyer you are paying already might be able to expand on it for you and you've already paid him.
