Grilling basket
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:13:48 PM »
A couple of years ago I got a grilling basket for cooking fish on the grill. This is a wonderful tool for the bar-bee-cue-ist. Works great with vegetables too, like zucchini, onion wedges, etc.  I got mine for about $10. Some cost quite a bit more, but you don't need an expensive one.

I have one bought long ago for my Brinkman Gourmet Smoker and a rib rack as well bought at the same time. I've never used either. I really should change that.

Here's something you can try:

Just get some fish fillets and put them in the basket. Brush them, trust me on this, with Miracle Whip, and grill it. It's pretty darned good. I learned the Miracle Whip trick from a guy I really doubted until I tried it myself. It adds a little flavor, and it puts a bit of fat on the fish to keep it from sticking, and it's got enough sugar in it to give the fish a nice browning.

While you're thinking I'm totally nuts, try halving some small (5") cucumbers from the garden and brush them with salad dressing like Italian dressing. Grill them in the basket. It's surprisingly good.

Another thing I like to grill with is steel kebab skewers. Red onion wedges, zucchini, bell pepper and other compatible vegies on one skewer. halved baby red potatoes on another skewer (because they cook at a different rate than the other vegies). Brush with my favorite convenience marinade, Kraft Greek Vinnaigrette salad dressing, and grill it. Goes great with venison marinated in the same stuff. Yum.

Matt fillets fish I don't. I chop off the head and pull the guts and cook them whole. I DO NOT eat such things as cucumbers other than as pickles, zucchini or any other kinda squash, or many other veggies really. I'm a meat and taters kinda guy. I do eat tomatoes, onions and figure carrots are OK if fully cooked and soft. Bell pepper I do enjoy but it doesn't like me and talks back to me for a full day afterward.

Nope I'm quite sure that has nothing to do with it. I do take a proper multi vitamin supplement daily cuz I do realize that veggies do provide some worthwhile vitamins and minerals the body needs but so does my pill. Eating veggies got nuttin to do with shortness of breath. Matt does keep telling me that some veggie I can't stand the smell of would reduce the arthritis pain but I'd rather have arthritis than eat that veggie whatever the heck the name of it is.

GB I wouldn't worried to much about those meat and tatters.  ;D My grand ma did every thing wrong! She fried dam near every thing. In pure lard she rendered from the pig she killed . She ate eggs in large numbers and un- processed milk and butter. She had chickens and a cow. Made her own butter and buttermilk.
All that bad eating finally killed her, at the age of 99 liking 21 days being 100.
I like you can not breath either, but I know the cause smoking for fifty years!
