My new (old) S&W
« on: September 12, 2009, 03:06:10 PM »
Only a hundred yrs. old and in excellent condition except for some flaking of the nickel finish.
Ever see one of these, only made from 1909 to 1911.  Only breaktop to have an integral trigger guard and only S&W to have both breaktop and thumbpiece opener.  J frame size round butt grip frame and 6" barrel.  .38 S&W.  Real smooth double action, fun to shoot, very accurate.  I've been trying to get it from this guy for about 10 yrs. finally made a trade.

Nice piece. The Standard Catalog of S&Ws (SCS&W) says that this is the "Perfected Model" and that 59,400 were built from 1909-1920. Value in "good" condition is $350-450.

Toroflow, thanks, I believe your right.  My standard catalog of firearms had said it was made from 1909 to 1911 but i just looked in Jenks "History of S&W" and he says to 1920 though this one with a 24xx serial # would have been in the 1st yr., I think.  Jenks also said that they were made with the 2 locks (top break and thumb release) for law enforcement use so the bad guys couldn't grab the gun at the top break and dump all the ammo.  Interesting, I hadn't heard that before.
